Anchorage Museum of History and Art (625 C Street, Anchorage, AK 99501) — One of the 10 most visited attractions in Alaska, this is a world-class museum located in the state’s largest city. The museum’s permanent collection has over 17,500 objects, 2,000 artifacts, and 350,000 historical photos. This wide-ranging collection of art offers an overview of the state’s rich history and an introduction to its varied cultures. Lfe-size dioramas show Alaskan homes and work environments from the 1920s; traditional village dwellings of Alaska’s Aleuts, Eskimos and Indians; homes of early Russian settlers and Gold-Rush era pioneers, and even an actual piece of the Alaska oil pipeline.

Admission: $18.00 (tourist adult); $15.00 (Alaska resident); $12.00 (seniors/military), $9.00 (children 3-12), free for children below age 3. Free admission for all on First Fridays of the Month (6:00 pm – 9:00 pm). Hours: 9:00 am – 6:00 pm daily (May-Sept.); 10:00 am – 6:00 pm Tues- Sat.; Noon – 6:00 pm Sunday; closed Monday (Winter).
