Denali National Park – located 5½ hours from Anchorage by car (or 8 hours by the Alaska Railroad), Denali is home to 39 species of mammals and 169 varieties of birds. Some of the wildlife seen in this park includes moose, caribou, mountain goats, wolves and bears. Visitors should check with park rangers about where their best chance for spotting the animals is at the time of their visit. It is important for visitors on the bus and on foot to remember that these animals are wild, and the park is their home. Admission: $15 per person (youth age 15 years or younger are free). This fee provides the visitor a 7-day entrance permit. It is charged year-round.
The Murie Science and Learning Center, which serves as the winter visitor center, is open daily from 9 am to 4:30 pm for information and backcountry permits. The Bear Loop of the Riley Creek Campground is open for free camping. A vault toilet is provided and campers can obtain water at the Murie Science and Learning Center.
